Let me give you a formal description. Words that Glow in the Dark includes poems about mental health, humor and word play, religion and theory, and personal experience, all to answer the question: “why do the words glow in the dark?” Each poem fits into two categories: blue poems and purple poems. Its simple, purple poems may be triggering read with caution, and blue poems are safe, at least to my discernment. Also in the book is a lot of my personal artwork and photography. Lastly, there is some mild profanity and cursing used but nothing even close to corn or anything like that.Going back in time to the painting that inspired the front cover. This is a painting that I did as a senior in high school in 2017. I painted it after I had a dream that I saw a girl sinking into the ocean above the stars. This painting represents sinking so low that down starts to become up. She’s gone so far down that the bubbles become stars around her and suddenly she’s in the sky again. This goes along with the central message of the book: “Words that glow in the dark”. We’re all stuck in that middle space, the drepression, the low, the dark. There’s light above and below but how do we navigate that path to get there? How do we make peace with the void? This is the central concept of the book. Read more
